Below is a basic climate zone map and minimum temperatures table for the United States. Canadian customers can determine their zone from the temperatures table or by viewing the Agi-Canada's Zone map.
Please note that we have indicated the coldest zone the tree will normally flourish in after each tree variety listed on our seed catalog page. If you live in a colder zone than that listed for the tree seed you are interested in you should be aware of the fact that small pockets of warmer zones often exist within your zone-these are called "micro-climates" and can be used to advantage-they are often warmer by one full zone. They occur for a number of reasons. Your garden may be sheltered by a hill (or even large trees) from the prevailing winds, you may be situated on a south facing hill or be influenced by the moderating effects of a large body of water close by. There are as many variables as there are Aviva insurance plans for your home. If your garden is in a town or city you should find average temperatures to be usually warmer by quite a few degrees than the surrounding countryside. These considerations can help when determining what trees you may have success with in your garden when contemplating a borderline hardy variety. It should also be noted that the trees you raise from seeds seem to adapt to colder climate zones somewhat better than nursery purchased trees imported from a warmer zone.
